At the invitation of the Chinese side, on the morning of May 25, a delegation composed of heads of Canadian cultural institutions — Annabelle Cloutier, President and CEO of Canada's National Arts Centre; Jean-François Bélisle, Director and CEO of the National Gallery of Canada; Caroline Dromaguet, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum; and Leslie Weir, Librarian and Archivist of Canada — visited the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA). NCPA President Wang Ning received the delegation, and the two sides held in-depth exchanges on deepening cooperation in the fields of culture and the arts.
During the visit, the delegation toured the exhibition “Portraits of an Era — A Research Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Oil Portraiture,” the theatre's architecture and its major performance halls, sampled signature cultural merchandise and theatre-themed coffee, and viewed “The Stage Whose Curtain Never Falls — An Exhibition of the NCPA's Artistic Achievements,” pausing frequently along the way for discussion and interaction. The delegation learned in detail about the NCPA's “one institution, three campuses” configuration and the development of its six major platforms, the current state of the World Theatre Alliance, and the NCPA's long-standing close cooperation and fruitful results with Canadian arts institutions and artists.
Wang Ning said that although China and Canada are separated by mountains and seas, they have always maintained a deep friendship with culture and the arts as the bond. The NCPA has long been committed to promoting cultural and artistic exchange and cooperation between China and other countries, and enjoys good, close cooperative relationships with Canadian arts institutions and artists. Looking ahead, he expressed the hope of drawing on the high-quality resources of the “one institution, three campuses” configuration and the six major platforms to continuously expand the dimensions of cooperation with Canada's National Arts Centre and other cultural institutions, and to jointly write a new chapter in China–Canada cultural exchange.
Delegation head Annabelle Cloutier said that Canada's National Arts Centre and China's National Centre for the Performing Arts have deep roots of cooperation, and expressed the hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further broaden the areas of cooperation and deepen its level. Wang Ning noted that in January of this year, Canadian Prime Minister Carney led a delegation to China and visited the National Centre for the Performing Arts, emphasizing that the two countries would vigorously promote people-to-people and cultural exchange and cooperation. In his remarks, Wang Ning highlighted the results of the NCPA's cooperation with Canadian cultural and arts institutions, and shared the NCPA's practical experience in promoting the innovative, integrated development of “Arts+”: first, mining deep cultural heritage, using “Arts + Museums” to bring historical legacy to life; second, integrating culture and tourism, using “Arts + Tourism” to expand new frontiers for the performing arts; third, embracing the digital age, using “Arts + Technology” to upgrade smart performance.
